Play971: The UAE's Licensed Online Casino and Sportsbook Explained
Play971 is the only online casino and sportsbook licensed in the UAE. It is run by Coin Technology Projects LLC under internet gaming and sports wagering licences from the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), and it is open only to players aged 21 or over who are physically in the UAE and verify with an Emirates ID.
Play971 went live in December 2025 as the first platform to offer online gambling legally in the Emirates. That makes it different in kind from every international casino available from the UAE: it answers to a UAE regulator, plays in dirhams, and has to follow UAE rules on identity, location and player protection. Those rules also make it stricter than most players expect — no app, no passports, no withdrawing your deposit, and no access from outside the country. This guide explains how it works, from registration to withdrawals, using the operator’s own help centre and the GCGRA’s register. Last checked: 15 October 2026.

Is Play971 Legal?
Yes. Play971 is the only online operator on the GCGRA’s register of licensees. Its operator, Coin Technology Projects LLC, holds two licences: Internet Gaming, which covers the casino, and Sports Wagering, which covers sports and racing bets. Gulf News reported at launch that it was the nineteenth licence the GCGRA had granted since the authority was set up in 2023. The operator’s help centre puts it simply: Play971 is “an official regulated iGaming website operating in the UAE and licensed by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority”.
That licence matters in both directions. For players, it is the only route to online gambling that UAE law authorises: the Crimes and Penalties Law still punishes gambling outside a licence, and the GCGRA states that playing with an unlicensed operator — online or in person — is illegal. For the operator, it means obligations: verifying every player, keeping out minors and people outside the country, offering limits and self-exclusion, and answering to a regulator that can investigate and sanction it.
The licence does not make other sites legal. International casinos that accept UAE players — including those reviewed on this site — are licensed abroad, if at all, and are not authorised by the GCGRA. For the full legal picture, see our UAE gambling laws guide.

How Play971 Came About
Play971 is the result of a short, deliberate sequence: the UAE created a federal regulator, licensed a lottery first, and only then opened online gaming under strict conditions.
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| September 2023 | The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) is established as the federal regulator for commercial gaming in all seven Emirates. |
| July 2024 | The GCGRA awards its lottery licence to The Game LLC, operator of the UAE Lottery. |
| 2025 | Coin Technology Projects LLC receives the internet gaming and sports wagering licences — reported as the GCGRA’s nineteenth licence. |
| 15 December 2025 | Play971 goes live as the UAE’s first licensed online casino and sportsbook. |
| June 2026 | The GCGRA appoints Ciarán Carruthers as chief executive. |
| September 2027 | Wynn Al Marjan Island, the first licensed land-based casino resort, is expected to open in Ras Al Khaimah. |
The order matters for how Play971 works. It was licensed into a framework already built around player protection — age 21, identity verification, location checks and self-exclusion — rather than adapting an existing international product to UAE rules.
Play971 and the UAE Lottery Are Different Things
The two are often confused because both are licensed by the GCGRA, but they are separate businesses under separate licences. The UAE Lottery is run by The Game LLC under the only lottery licence in the GCGRA framework. Play971 is run by Coin Technology Projects LLC under the internet gaming and sports wagering licences, and offers casino games and sports betting, not the national lottery draws. An account with one does not give you access to the other. The two long-running airport draws, Big Ticket and the Dubai Duty Free draws, are a third category: the GCGRA allowed them to continue under its supervision.
Who Can Play on Play971?
Play971’s rules on who may play are stricter than those of most international casinos, because they come from UAE regulation rather than from the operator’s own policy.
- Age 21 or over. Players must be at least 21 to register, deposit or place a bet — older than the 18 used by most regulators abroad. The age is checked through your Emirates ID.
- Physically in the UAE. Every session is checked against your location. From outside the country the site shows “Play971 is not accessible from outside the United Arab Emirates”.
- Not in a restricted area. Access is also blocked from what the operator describes as sensitive geographic areas within the country.
- An Emirates ID holder. Identity verification accepts the Emirates ID only — not passports, driving licences or other national IDs.
- One account per person. The help centre describes a strict one-account policy, and the system blocks duplicate accounts automatically.
- Not an insider. Directors and employees of Play971, its key contractors and specified vendors, and their close relatives and household members are barred from playing.
Using a VPN or any tool to hide or change your location is explicitly prohibited, and winnings obtained that way will not be paid.
Can Tourists Play on Play971?
Being in the UAE is necessary but not enough: you also need to pass identity verification, and Play971 accepts only the Emirates ID for that. In practice, a visitor without an Emirates ID cannot complete verification, and without verification an account cannot deposit or withdraw.

How to Register on Play971
01
Go to www.play971.ae from inside the UAE, typing the address yourself rather than following an advert or a link.
02
Allow location access. The site needs your browser’s precise location. On Android, that means Settings → Location → App permissions → your browser → “Allow only while using the app”, with “Use precise location” switched on.
03
Click “Register” in the top-right corner and fill in your details exactly as they appear on your Emirates ID.
04
Complete identity verification (KYC). Upload clear images of both sides of your Emirates ID with all four corners visible. Play971’s automated eKYC check gives an instant response.
05
Set your limits. Before your first deposit, choose a deposit limit in the Player Controls section.
06
Make your first deposit with a card or wallet in your own name.
If Verification Fails
Until KYC is approved, an account stays inactive: you cannot deposit, withdraw or use some features. The help centre lists three common reasons for a failed check — a document that is unclear or cropped, details that do not match what you entered at registration, and an expired Emirates ID. You are told why the check failed and can upload the document again or correct your details.

Play971 Login
You log in at www.play971.ae with the username and password you chose at registration, using the “Log in” button in the top-right corner. Three things commonly stop a login from working:
- Location. If your browser does not share your precise location, or you are outside the UAE or in a restricted area, the site will not let you play.
- Too many wrong passwords. Repeated incorrect attempts freeze the account for security; the help centre has a dedicated article on restoring access.
- An outdated browser. The help centre recommends updating your device and browser if pages do not load.
Never log in through a link received by message or found in an advert. Lookalike sites copy the Play971 name and logo; the only official address is www.play971.ae.
Is There a Play971 App?
No. Play971’s help centre states that it does not currently have a mobile application and that the platform is available exclusively through its website, www.play971.ae, on both desktop and mobile. When we checked the UAE App Store on 12 October 2026, there was no Play971 app listed.
That has a practical consequence: any “Play971 app download”, APK file or app-store listing using the name is not from the operator. Several websites with similar names offer “app” downloads or login pages — none of them is Play971. On a phone, open www.play971.ae in your browser; you can add it to your home screen from the browser’s menu for an icon without installing anything. Our casino apps guide explains why real-money casino apps are rarely in the official stores.
What You Can Play on Play971
The site is organised in three sections — Casino, Sports and Racing — with search across games, teams and leagues.
Casino and Live Casino
The casino has quick links to slots, live casino and roulette, and its menu groups games into categories including fruit slots, crash games, Megaways, bonus-buy slots, roulette, baccarat and blackjack. Banners carry the platform’s “21+ Keep it Fun, Keep it Safe” message. On 15 October 2026 the home page featured slots from the studio Endorphina, and the live casino listed 30 tables, including Champions Roulette with stakes from AED 10 to AED 50,000 and Triton Roulette from AED 5 to AED 50,000. Gulf News reported at launch that the casino offers slots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, craps, poker and bingo. The help centre includes rules for live games such as live blackjack and live roulette variants. For how each game works and its typical odds, see our casino games guide.
Live Blackjack Rules on Play971
Play971’s help centre publishes the rules for its live blackjack tables, and they are worth reading because table rules decide the odds:
- Eight 52-card decks in a shoe, reshuffled periodically, with up to seven boxes per table.
- Blackjack pays 3:2 — the better of the two common payouts.
- Insurance is offered when the dealer shows an ace and pays 2:1 if the dealer has blackjack.
- The dealer stands on 17, including soft 17, and peeks for blackjack.
- Double down on any two-card hand; split pairs once, for two hands in total; split aces receive one card each.
- Bet behind another player’s seat while waiting for a place, and optional side bets such as Perfect Pair and Triple Treat.
A 3:2 payout and a dealer who stands on soft 17 are both rules that favour the player compared with common alternatives. Side bets carry a higher house edge than the main game.
Royal Riches Roulette
One of the live roulette variants explained in the help centre adds multipliers to standard roulette: in each round two to four random numbers are boosted after betting closes, paying from 50x up to 1,000x on a straight-up bet. A collection feature awards entry to a bonus game, Relic Hunt, once a player has won straight-up bets on numbers marked with four different coloured suits. As with all multiplier roulette, the boosted payouts are balanced by lower payouts elsewhere, so read the game’s own rules panel for its exact paytable.
Sports Betting and Racing
The Sports Wagering licence covers betting on sport, including in-play betting with prices that update during the event. At launch the main sports listed were football, horse racing, cricket, basketball and tennis, and racing has its own section on the site.
The help centre describes three bet types:
| Bet type | How it works | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Single | One outcome in one event | AED 50 on a team at odds of 2.00 returns AED 100 if it wins |
| Multiple | Several selections in one bet; the odds are multiplied, and every selection must win | AED 50 on two selections at 2.00 and 1.50 (combined 3.00) returns AED 150 — or nothing if either loses |
| System | Several selections split automatically into smaller combinations, so some can lose and the bet can still return something | Three selections played as three doubles: one losing selection still leaves one winning double |
Odds and returns are illustrative. Returns include the stake.
Multiples raise the potential return and the risk together: the more selections, the less likely every one of them wins. System bets cost more, because each combination is a separate stake.
Rollbacks
Occasionally an event is settled with the wrong result. Play971’s help centre describes a rollback: the incorrect settlement is reversed and any payout made on it is taken back; if that leaves your balance negative, it is brought back to zero; and once the correct result is confirmed, the right prize is paid. It is worth knowing about before you withdraw a large win from a recently settled bet.

Play971 Deposits and Withdrawals
Payments are in dirhams and must use methods in your own name — the card must be linked to a bank account in the same name as your Play971 account.
Deposit Methods
- Bank cards — a payment card linked to a bank account in your name.
- Botim Money — the digital wallet in the Botim app. Your Botim Money account must be registered with the same Emirates ID as your Play971 account. You top up the wallet with Apple Pay, a Visa or Mastercard card or a linked bank account, choose the “Apple Pay / Botim Money / Google Pay” option on Play971’s deposit page, and approve the payment in the Botim app.
- Cash through a kiosk — the help centre explains how to add cash to a Botim Money wallet at a kiosk, which can then be used to deposit.
Depositing Cash Through a Botim Kiosk
If you prefer cash, you can load your Botim Money wallet at a kiosk and then deposit from the wallet:
- In the Botim Money app, open Botim Money Pay, tap “Add funds”, choose “Deposit cash” and use “Find location” to locate a kiosk.
- At the kiosk, select the Botim Money wallet option.
- Enter your Botim Money mobile number or scan the QR code; the kiosk shows a masked version of your name to confirm.
- Insert the cash. When the screen shows “Transaction Successful”, keep the printed receipt with its reference number.
Your Deposit Cannot Be Withdrawn
This is the rule that surprises players most. Play971’s help centre states that the deposit amount “is dedicated to betting ONLY and CANNOT be withdrawn” — only prize money won from bets is withdrawable. If you deposit AED 500 and change your mind before playing, that AED 500 stays on your account for betting. Deposit only what you intend to play with.
How to Withdraw
- Click your profile in the top-right corner of the site.
- Choose “Withdraw” from the menu.
- Enter the amount and select the withdrawal option — bank transfer to your IBAN or Botim Money.
Withdrawal Methods and Times
| Stage | Time stated by Play971 |
|---|---|
| Internal processing | Aimed within 24 hours of the request |
| Bank transfer (IBAN) | 1–5 business days after approval |
| Botim Money wallet | Usually instant, up to 24 hours in some cases |
From Play971’s help centre, checked 15 October 2026.
Two practical points. Winnings may be paid back to the card you used, so on a joint bank account the other account holder may see the payment. And if the cashier shows a withdrawal as successful but the money has not arrived, the help centre’s first step is to check the processing time for the method before contacting support with the transaction details.
If a Deposit Fails
Check that the card details are correct, that the amount is within the deposit limits shown in the cashier, that your bank account has the funds, and that your own deposit limit has not been reached. If it still fails, note the amount, date, time and any error message and send them to support. Your bank’s decision to decline a payment is its own; Play971 cannot override it.
Responsible Gaming on Play971
As a licensed operator, Play971 must offer tools to control play. They are in the Player Controls section of your account:
- Deposit limits — daily, weekly or monthly amounts, with time frames from 24 hours up to 30 days.
- Time-outs — a break from your account for a set period.
- Self-exclusion — a block on playing for at least six months. Because accounts are tied to the Emirates ID, a self-exclusion cannot be avoided simply by opening a new account.
- Account closure — requested through support; if the reason is a concern about gambling, the help centre says the request is escalated to a specialised responsible gaming team.
Gulf News reported that the platform directs players who need support to Takalam, a mental health support service. Setting a deposit limit before you play is the simplest protection — and because deposits cannot be withdrawn, a limit also caps what you can commit to betting at any one time.
Tips for Using Play971 Safely
A licensed platform removes the biggest risks of offshore gambling, but a few habits still make a difference:
- Bookmark www.play971.ae. Lookalike sites and fake “app” downloads use the Play971 name. Typing or bookmarking the address is the simplest protection.
- Deposit only what you mean to bet. Because deposits cannot be withdrawn, money you pay in is committed to play. Treat each deposit as spent.
- Set your deposit limit first. A weekly or monthly limit in Player Controls caps what can go in, whatever happens during a session.
- Think about a joint account. Winnings may be paid back to the card you used; on a joint account, the other holder will see them.
- Keep your Emirates ID details current. An expired ID or details that do not match will stop verification — and with it deposits and withdrawals.
- Never use a VPN. It breaks the platform’s rules and can cost you your winnings.
- Keep records. Note deposit and withdrawal references, and keep kiosk receipts until a deposit shows on your account.
- Check results before withdrawing a big win. If an event was settled incorrectly, a rollback can reverse the payout.
And keep gambling in proportion. Play971 is entertainment with a built-in cost, not a source of income. If gambling stops being fun, use a time-out or self-exclusion and seek support.
Play971 vs International Online Casinos
Many players in the UAE are used to international casinos. Play971 differs from them in almost every practical respect:
| Play971 | International casinos | |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status in the UAE | Licensed by the GCGRA | Not authorised in the UAE |
| Minimum age | 21 | Usually 18 |
| Identity check | Emirates ID only, before depositing | Passport or ID, often only before the first withdrawal |
| Location | Must be physically in the UAE; VPNs prohibited | Each operator’s own country rules |
| Currency | AED | Usually USD or EUR |
| Withdrawing your deposit | Not possible — only winnings | Usually possible if no bonus is active |
| Payments | UAE cards in your name, Botim Money | Varies; UAE banks often decline gambling card payments |
| App | None — website only | Varies |
| Self-exclusion | Minimum six months, tied to your Emirates ID | Per operator, easy to bypass across sites |
| If something goes wrong | A UAE regulator oversees the operator | Depends on the foreign licence, if any |
The trade-off is clear. Play971 is the only option that is lawful for players in the UAE and the only one with UAE oversight; it is also more restrictive. International casinos may offer larger game libraries and bonuses, but playing with them is not authorised under UAE law, whatever their licence abroad.
Common Questions About Using Play971
Why can I not access Play971?
The most common reasons are being outside the UAE, being in a restricted area, or your browser not sharing your precise location. Turn on location services and allow precise location for your browser, then reload www.play971.ae. Using a VPN will not help — it is prohibited and can lead to winnings being withheld.
Does Play971 offer bonuses?
Play971’s help centre has a Promotions section, and any offer is subject to its own terms. Read them in full in your account before opting in, as you would with any casino bonus — our casino bonuses guide explains wagering requirements and the terms that matter.
How do I contact Play971 support?
Through the help centre at help.play971.ae, which has articles on accounts, verification, payments, responsible gaming, sports and casino, or by email at support@play971.ae.

- Can I close my Play971 account?
Yes, by contacting support. If you are closing it because of concerns about your gambling, the request is passed to a specialised responsible gaming team.
